How typical is that? Bands that are at the mercy of a bad sound man!
Madrid’s venue Moby Dick hosted the gig of the technoillogical myopia and healthcontrol. Despite the cold weather and the day of the week (why Wednesdays?), the venue was packed out.
the technoillogical myopia played first launching their magma EP. A London based band but with Spanish roots, they do electronic rock with intense soundscapes and surprising atmospheres. The compositions of the technoillogical myopia have an exquisite taste and are full of sonic nuances that unfortunately got lost in some of the songs due to the off-stage sound. It would have been a shame to miss the impassive face of the venue’s technician when the singer asked for the sound of the second microphone (with effects). "Uh!?"
They knew how to overcome the problems offering a very intense performance filled with good songs. We could hear all the songs from their EP. Songs like Letter and Trismo bring to mind the poignant sound of Massive Attack, the rock songs Autoexit and War with guitars reminiscent of PJ Harvey, Mantra and the stunning Wizard. From nearly an hour's performance, if one had to find fault, it could be said that the time taken between songs was a bit too long. Six musicians that constantly changed instruments, and more instruments than musicians. Guitars, bass guitars, percussions, keyboards, violins, a tube that sounded like a storm (I want one of those), windy keyboards and a curious stringed instrument, or percussion if you wish, that played very harmonic sounds. Too much perhaps, but without all that, the music of the technoillogical myopia cannot be understood. They are really good.
